Suspects Arrested for Allegedly Carjacking U-Haul While Posing as Law Enforcement; Weapons Seized
BERRY CREEK, CA — “On June 19, 2025, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed carjacking involving a U-Haul truck in Berry Creek, California. The victim reported being stopped by multiple suspects impersonating law enforcement officers. The suspects brandished firearms, forcibly removed the victim from the vehicle, and stole the U-Haul.
Later that evening, a Glenn County resident reported an abandoned U-Haul truck on their property, which had been doused in fuel. Detectives from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation and identified a suspect: Eduardo Gonzalez, age 38, of Orland.
Search warrants were obtained for two properties in Glenn and Tehama counties associated with Gonzalez. An arrest warrant was also obtained for Gonzalez.
On July 10, 2025, detectives conducted a traffic stop and arrested Gonzalez. During a search of the vehicle, detectives located two loaded, concealed firearms, one of which had been reported stolen. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Jose Torres Duran, age 38, of Orland, was also arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in violation of Penal Code 25400 PC.
Following the arrests, detectives served the search warrants at the Glenn and Tehama County locations. Additional evidence was discovered, including 13 additional firearms, a receipt for the stolen U-Haul, items used in the robbery, and approximately 600 pounds of marijuana.
As the investigation progressed, detectives developed information implicating Eduardo Gonzalez’s brother, Giovanni Gonzalezrojas, age 27, of Orland, in the carjacking. An arrest warrant was obtained for Rojas.
On July 16, 2025, detectives conducted a traffic stop on Gonzalezrojas and placed him under arrest without incident. A search of his vehicle revealed another firearm and additional evidence related to the carjacking.
