Havoc at Brentwood Shopping Centers Leads to 5 Juvenile Arrests

BRENTWOOD, CA — Police arrested five juveniles at two shopping centers after a large group created havoc for businesses. One juvenile was arrested for battery on an officer, and four juveniles were arrested for misdemeanor violations.

A preplanned gathering on July 11th became disruptive shortly after 3:30 p.m. More than 300 juveniles descended upon on the Streets of Brentwood and Sand Creek Crossing shopping centers, located on Sand Creek Road.

“Juveniles arrived in rideshare vehicles or other means of transportation from outside the area,” Brentwood police said in a prepared statement.

“Several juveniles became unruly and physical fights occurred. Several juveniles entered businesses and knocked items off shelves. Others ran in and out of traffic along Sand Creek Road.”

Businesses at the Streets of Brentwood shopping center closed as a precaution to protect staff and property. “Dispersal orders were given for everyone involved to leave and clear the surrounding streets.”

Brentwood police requested assistance from nearby law enforcement agencies. Oakley police, California Highway Patrol officers, and Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies helped disperse the juveniles and restore order.

At one point police received a report of a driver with firearm. Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop with their guns drawn, However, it turned out there was no firearm. No injuries were reported during all this juvenile mayhem.
