Shasta County Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting At, Harassing Family
IGO, CA — A Shasta County man was arrested for allegedly harassing and shooting at a family in their front yard.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the night of Tuesday, July 8, to the area of Small Farms Drive and Duck Canyon Lane to investigate a report of a shooting.
The victims, who are Spanish-speaking, said that the suspect had pulled up to their home while they were outside and fired multiple shots at them while yelling racial slurs. The family retreated into the house. No injuries were reported, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies identified the suspect as 68-year-old Timothy Ray Thompson, whom they learned had returned to his own residence on the 15000 block of Small Farms Drive. Other residents in the area reported that Thompson had been acting erratically and may have other weapons, according to authorities.
Given the circumstances, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the area. After securing search and arrest warrants, authorities located Thompson in a trailer on his property and took him into custody.
During the search, authorities reportedly found several additional firearms.
Thompson was booked at the Shasta County jail on suspicion of threatening with intent to terrorize, violating civil rights by force or threat of force, assault with a firearm, child abuse with possible great bodily injury or death, shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, illegal possession of an assault weapon, and a charge connected to the alleged possession of a short-barrel rifle.
The victims reported that they have no prior connection or history with Thompson.
Thompson’s bail was set at $500,000. The investigation continues.
