Pine Grove Burglary Suspect Caught After Reporting His Own Theft

PINE GROVE, CA  —  “Late in the afternoon on 05/20/2025, an out-of-town homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office to report that his WiFi cameras showed two men entering his Pine Grove residence, before the cameras cut out.

Deputies responded and determined that a burglary had occurred, and multiple items had been stolen, including the cameras. The investigation also revealed that the burglars had shut off the power to the residence, but not before they had been caught on video. Deputies recognized the suspects and their vehicle. Several hours later, one of the suspects approached a Sutter Creek Police Officer claiming to have been the victim of a theft (we still don’t understand why).

Deputies responded and arrested the suspect and recovered all of the stolen items from his vehicle, including the stolen cameras, which the suspect had put tape over the lenses. Also in the vehicle, deputies located methamphetamine possessed for sale.

The suspect was arrested for multiple felonies, including burglary, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and maliciously disconnecting electric utilities. Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up!”
