Suspect in Custody for Assault of Dog Walkers near Bayfront Park

PINOLE, CA — Police recently arrested a suspect in connection with two brutal assaults in May near Bayfront Park
in Pinole.

Miguel A. Patino, 27 of Richmond, remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility
in lieu of $270,000 bond.

The shocking daytime assaults happened during a weekday afternoon. Two victims were attacked
while walking a dog on May 28 at approximately 2 p.m.

Both victims required medical treatment for their injuries. At least one of the victims suffered brain injury, which may result in paralysis. One of the
victims is an elderly person.

Pinole officers responded to the reported assaults, prompting an investigation that culminated in the
suspect’s arrest. Patino was quickly identified as the suspect.

He was placed under arrest about one hour later at his apartment in Richmond, without further incident.

Patino was booked on suspicion of aggravated battery, elder/dependent abuse, and assault with a
weapon other than a firearm. On May 30, the following charges with enhancements were filed against
Patino –

* Assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury
* Great bodily injury to brain/paralysis
* Great bodily injury on an elderly victim

Patino’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 11. The investigation of the
