Convicted Sex Offender Arrested for Alleged Indecent Exposure at Humboldt County Casino

LOLETA, CA — A man with a prior conviction for indecent exposure has been arrested for allegedly committing the same crime outside a casino in Loleta last week.

According to a press release by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the night of Thursday, May 22, to a report of “suspicious circumstances” at the Bear River Casino Resort.

Deputies arrived and were directed by casino security to the presence of an individual who allegedly exposed himself in a public area at the Pump and Play gas station. The sheriff’s office identified this individual in the press release as Kevin John Murphy, 50, of Fortuna.

Deputies reportedly confirmed Fortuna’s status as a registered sex offender with a prior conviction for indecent exposure, and took him into custody for allegedly violating the terms of his probation — along with a new charge of indecent exposure.

Deputies allegedly also discovered a small amount of methamphetamine in Fortuna’s possession.

Murphy was later booked on suspicion of indecent exposure with a prior offense, violation of probation, and possession of a controlled substance, the sheriff’s office said.
