WALNUT CREEK, CA — A school supervisor has been arrested and charged for allegedly sexually
assaulting an underage student.
Gerard M. Flaherty, 43, of Pleasant Hill, worked at a charter school in
Walnut Creek at the time of his arrest.
Flaherty has been in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility ineligible for release on bond, since his
arrest on April 30.
Flaherty worked as an office supervisor at the Contra Costa School of Performing Arts in Walnut Creek. The school website directory lists Flaherty’s job title as Climate and Culture
Supervisor.
The sexual assault that he allegedly committed occurred on February 19. Flaherty was booked on
suspicion of forcible rape and unlawful intercourse with an unconscious minor.
On May 2, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges against Flaherty –
* Rape of a child over 14 years of age
* Assault with intent to commit a felony on a victim under 18 years old
* Unlawful sexual intercourse
Flaherty has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for May 13. Meanwhile, Walnut Creek police
officers and detectives are continuing to the investigate the incident.
