Helping Hand Leads to Important Discovery

FOLSOM, CA  ––  “On May 1, just after 2:00 p.m., one of our Folsom Police Officers was flagged down by a woman who had run out of gas in a parking lot near the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street. The officer was happy to help. The officer went and got gas for her and got her back on the road.

A short time later, while passing by the area again, the officer noticed the woman acting strangely – enough to raise concern. He stopped to check on her, and during their conversation, she admitted to having drugs and a loaded gun in the car.

A search turned up a loaded .38 revolver, over 23 grams of meth, and drug paraphernalia.

The woman, 47-year-old Kelly Long, of Sacramento, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on several charges, including possession of a concealed weapon, possession of drugs, and having drugs while armed with a loaded firearm.

What started as a simple act of assistance turned into a serious public safety matter, and another example of how staying alert helps us protect our community.”
