Two Arrested After Shasta County Sergeant Reportedly Finds Meth, Cannabis During Traffic Stop

SHASTA COUNTY, CA — Two people were arrested for the alleged possession of narcotics for sale during a traffic stop in Shasta County last week.

According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, a patrol sergeant stopped a motorist for alleged vehicle code violations at Ranchette and Silverado drives on the night of Wednesday, April 23. The sergeant identified the driver as Marcelino Chavez, 41, of Anderson and the passenger as Sheann Martinez, 38, of Redding.

The sergeant also discovered that Martinez was on probation, the sheriff’s office said.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies located approximately 139 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 5 pounds of processed cannabis.

The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force responded and assumed the investigation due to the amount of narcotics found.

Chavez was arrested for the alleged possession of a controlled substance with prior convictions, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, and transportation of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $50,000.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of the possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Both were booked at the Shasta County jail, authorities said.
