Convicted Felon Arrested for Attempted Murder Following Multi-Agency Operation
CALEXICO, CA — “Gustavo Alejandro Ortiz, a 29-year-old convicted felon, was taken into custody on multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly pistol-whipping and strangling his girlfriend.
When officers initially attempted a traffic stop, Ortiz tried to discard a firearm by throwing it over a rooftop. He then led officers on a vehicle pursuit and successfully evaded capture at that time.
Following an extensive investigation, Calexico Police Detectives coordinated a multi-agency operation to apprehend Ortiz.
The operation led authorities to the city of Brawley, where Ortiz was spotted in the area of Main Street and N. Eastern Avenue. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and Ortiz was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
The CPOA would like to thank the Brawley Police Department, El Centro Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and all other allied agencies involved for their assistance in bringing this violent fugitive to justice.”
