CONCORD, CA — A man implicated in a murder remains behind bars at the Martinez Detention Facility in
lieu of $4.2 million bond.
Chance Martin, a 27-year-old resident of Pittsburg, was placed under arrest days after a fatal shooting.
Martin allegedly fired multiple gunshots April 14 at a group of males in a parking lot.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3 a.m., outside the Tortilleria El Molino restaurant,1500 Monument
Boulevard in Concord.
One of bullets struck and killed Omar Gonzales, a 41-year-old youth baseball
coach.
Concord patrol officers in the vicinity heard gunshots and responded to the restaurant. Some 911
callers also reported these gunshots.
The victim, later identified as, 40-year-old Omar Garcia, was found lying on the ground and pronounced dead at the scene, near the intersection of Monument Boulevard and Reganti Drive.
Martin was, reportedly, involved in a dispute with the group in the parking lot, Concord police said in a
prepared statement.
“He left in a vehicle and returned a short time later, and shot multiple times from
the window of his vehicle,” officials said.
On April 16, Concord detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals, Pleasant Hill police and
Antioch police served search warrants in Pleasant Hill and Antioch.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office later arrested Martin on a warrant April 18. , Martin was on probation for a recent
conviction for carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
Charges were filed April 18 against Martin for murder. Additional charges include intentional discharge
of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm from a vehicle causing great bodily injury or death.
