Oroville Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting

OROVILLE, CA  —  “On April 12, 2025, Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies were dispatched to a report of a victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the 600 block of Black Bart Road, Oroville.  Deputies immediately responded.  Upon arrival they located a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  Despite the lifesaving efforts provided by deputies and medical personnel, the victim did not survive.

Deputies and detectives immediately began conducting an investigation.  Detectives contacted multiple individuals on the property where the victim was located.  One of the individuals contacted was identified as Curtis Morales, age 43, of Oroville.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the property where the victim was located.  Detectives determined the victim and Morales had previously been in a dating relationship.  Detectives located evidence that gave them cause to believe Morales shot the victim.  Detectives located the firearm they believe Morales used to shoot the victim hidden on the property.

This investigation is on-going.  On April 13, 2025, Morales was booked into the Butte County Jail for one count of murder.  Morales is scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on the afternoon of April 16, 2025.”
