TIBURON, CA — An armed robbery suspect who fled California awaits extradition to Marin
County from Colorado. Anthony L. Yancy, 21, of Richmond, allegedly followed a Tiburon
resident home from an ATM in the Strawberry neighborhood.
The incident happened last year on November 10. After reaching home, two suspects robbed
$500 from the victim. Yancy allegedly fired two gunshots at the man who was injured but
survived his ordeal. Both of the suspects fled in what turned out to be a rental vehicle—a red
Kia.
An alert was issued to nearby law enforcement agencies. The driver of the Kia was stopped
by Richmond police. The unidentified suspect, a juvenile at the time, was arrested and
booked at Marin County Juvenile Hall.
The armed robbery victim positively identified the teen.
Tiburon investigators later identified Yancy as the second suspect, who was recorded on
surveillance video.
Investigators searched Yancy’s Richmond residence in March, where a
loaded firearm was found concealed inside a sofa. Additional evidence was also recovered.
However, Yancy was not there.
Marin County investigators determined that Yancy had fled California, and an arrest
warrant was issued for him.
On April 5, Denver police made contact with Yancy during a traffic stop. He was arrested on the outstanding warrant and booked into Denver County Jail.
When Yancy is extradited to California, he faces charges in Marin County for robbery, and
willful discharge of a firearm with negligence.
In addition, Yancy faces unrelated charges in Contra Costa County for kidnapping, robbery, and multiple firearms-related crimes.
