Wounded Suspect Mistakenly Released from Shasta County Hospital Located, Arrested in Nevada

RENO, NV — A suspect wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Shasta County and then released from the hospital unbeknownst to law enforcement has been located and arrested in Nevada.
According to a press release by the Redding Police Department, 46-year-old David Johnson Schaeffer of Anderson had been hospitalized after the shooting on March 26, then transferred to an out-of-county hospital for further treatment.
He was later released without law enforcement being notified, police said.
On Thursday, April 10, investigators reportedly located and arrested Schaeffer in Reno.
Schaeffer was booked into the Washoe County jail and is awaiting extradition back to Shasta County, police said.
