On the evening of Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, law enforcement authorities were alerted to the presence of a stolen 2022 Kia Forte originating from San Jose in Kettleman City. Air 1 and Patrol Deputies promptly mobilized to locate the vehicle, deploying resources to the specified area.

Upon arrival, a Deputy identified the stolen Kia at the intersection of 30th Ave & Avenal Cut Off. The driver, later identified as Dominique Deshaun Jones, immediately accelerated north on Avenal Cut Off upon realizing the presence of law enforcement. Despite initial pursuit by the Deputy, the pursuit was quickly terminated due to concerns regarding public safety, Jones’ erratic driving behavior, and heavy traffic conditions.

Air 1 continued to monitor the vehicle as it traveled northbound on the Avenal Cut Off, reaching speeds exceeding 110 mph. Despite the cessation of active pursuit by ground units, Jones persisted in reckless driving, weaving dangerously through traffic.

Ultimately, Jones lost control of the stolen Kia, resulting in a crash just south of the SR-198 on-ramp from Avenal Cut Off. Subsequently, Jones fled the scene on foot, crossing over the eastbound lane of SR-198 and seeking refuge in the foliage of the center divider.

Law enforcement authorities took decisive action to secure the area, halting traffic on both the east and westbound lanes of SR-198 to facilitate the safe apprehension of Jones. Despite repeated commands to surrender, Jones refused to comply, prompting the introduction of K9 Boomer to effect his arrest. Following a brief altercation, Jones was successfully taken into custody and subsequently received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the apprehension.

Jones now faces multiple charges, including felony pursuit, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine. He has been remanded to the custody of Kings County Jail, with bail set at $95,000.00.
