A woman who works as an escort is in custody at Marin County Jail for the murder of her mother. The same suspect was detained one day earlier at Santa Rosa police headquarters for wanton disregard of safety.

A fatal stabbing occurred on January 8 at the Highlands of Marin apartments on Cresta Way in San Rafael. It streamed live on Facebook. Witnesses at the scene reported the stabbing shortly before 5 p.m. More callers who saw the stabbing video contacted San Rafael police, before Facebook removed the video.

Officers found the 55-year-old victim on a balcony suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she died about 90 minutes later.

Police found 28-year-old Tonantzyn O. Beltran, standing on a balcony. Beltran was holding a knife. Her mother’s clothing was soaking with blood. Beltran was unresponsive to officers confronting her on the balcony. More officers entered the apartment and arrested her at 5:28 p.m.

Beltran is in custody on open murder charges. In a prepared statement San Rafael police said. “Detectives are working to establish a motive for why Beltran would commit such an offense.”

Investigators are collaborating with Santa Rosa police, concerning another video that Beltran made. This video was made one day earlier in the lobby of the Santa Rosa police headquarters. No further details were released.

Beltran has been in other trouble with the law recently. She was arrested twice in September for driving while under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. In April 2023, she was arrested for public intoxication.
