San Francisco PD makes arrest in Shooting Investigation

In the early hours of Sunday, October 29, 2023, at around 2:00 a.m., officers from the San Francisco Police Department’s Central and Northern Stations responded to a shooting incident in the 900 block of Geary St. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim with a gunshot wound. Swiftly, they provided aid, and medics were summoned to the scene to transport the victim to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries.

Taking charge of the investigation, the SFPD Night Investigations Unit (NIU) delved into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The suspect was identified as 63-year-old Byron Pratt, a resident of San Francisco.

Building a case against Pratt, investigators acquired probable cause to obtain arrest and search warrants. On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, around 10:20 p.m., a team of SFPD investigators and officers located Pratt on the 400 block of Fulton St. and executed the warrants. Pratt was subsequently arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder (664/187 PC), Intentional discharge of a firearm during a felony resulting in great bodily injury (12022.53(d) PC), and felon in possession of a firearm (29800(a)(1) PC).

Despite the arrest, the investigation remains open and active. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to contact the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411, beginning the text message with SFPD. Tipsters have the option to remain anonymous.
