San Mateo Police Locate Stolen Corvette; Driver Arrested

Redwood City police recently arrested a man after he allegedly led them on a pursuit in a stolen car.

According to a press release by the department, Redwood City Police received two calls reporting gunshots in the vicinity of Sanchez Way and Oak Avenue just before 4:30 AM on October 26. The individuals involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene in two vehicles, described as a dark-colored Charger and a black Chevrolet Corvette.

Police officers located the suspect vehicles in the area of Woodside Road and Broadway. The black Corvette reportedly collided with a street sign on the southbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Woodside Road, and the driver attempted to flee on foot.

With assistance from the California Highway Patrol, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, and Atherton Police Department, law enforcement established a perimeter in the area.

Atherton Police Department also deployed a drone equipped with infrared technology to single out an area in the bushes where the suspect was believed to be hiding. Officers also made use of a K-9 unit during a ground search. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Alex Stuart Cisneros-Mencos, was located and arrested without incident.

Further investigation revealed that the black Corvette was reported stolen from San Jose.

Police say that the initial incident unfolded when the individual who’d called police had heard “suspicious sounds,” and encountered approximately six individuals associated with the Charger and Corvette. The caller, who reportedly held a concealed-carry permit, fired a warning shot into the ground. The individuals then entered their vehicles and left the scene.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective James Schneider at 650-780-7607 or via email at JSchneider@redwoodcity.org. Anonymous tips can be reported to 650-780-7110.
