“An East Palo Alto man was arrested by patrol officers early Friday morning after leading police officers on a brief pursuit in a stolen car.

Around 3:30 am on September 1, Mountain View dispatchers received a call about a possible burglary in progress at an apartment complex on the 2200 block of Showers Drive. The caller provided a description of a possible suspect vehicle – a white SUV. Responding officers spotted a car — a white Honda SUV — attempting to leave the complex. A quick records check revealed that the car had been stolen out of a neighboring city.

Officers attempted to pull the car over, but the driver immediately sped off onto San Antonio Road. Officers followed, but when the car drove onto southbound Highway 101, officers terminated the pursuit. Moments later, patrol officers again spotted the car take the Old Middlefield Way exit from Highway 101 and begin to drive against traffic at slower speeds. When the driver noticed that our officers were again attempting to pull them over, they drove into a parking lot, eventually colliding head-on with one of our patrol vehicles responding to assist. The driver then tried to evade our team again but ultimately lost control of the car a short distance away when the car collided with a power pole on Colony Street. The driver jumped out of the car and tried to run away, but was quickly detained by two of our patrol officers.

Three other people that were in the car were all subsequently detained without further incident. All four were taken to an area hospital for treatment as a precaution because of the vehicle crash. The driver, identified as 29-year-old East Palo Alto resident Anthony Quach, was later medically cleared and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on eight outstanding felony warrants, vehicle theft, felony evasion, hit and run, resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon.

No officers were injured in the incident, but two patrol vehicles were badly damaged as we tried to safely take Quach into custody.”
