On Saturday, June 17th, 2023, at approximately 6:23 pm, a dramatic turn of events unfolded as NCPD officers spotted a vehicle in Nevada City that had been involved in a police pursuit earlier in the day. Acting swiftly, the officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply and instead accelerated down Broad Street at a dangerously high speed. The pursuit continued until the vehicle attempted to make a sharp turn onto Nevada Street, ultimately colliding with the bridge’s railing.
Amidst the chaos, officers managed to safely extract the male suspect from the damaged vehicle and placed him under arrest. The individual was identified as 36-year-old Jakob Rogers, a resident of Grass Valley, CA. Following his apprehension, Rogers was promptly booked into the Nevada County Jail on multiple charges, including evading the police, violating Post release Community Supervision terms, and suspected DUI with prior DUI convictions. These charges underscore the seriousness of the incident and the potential risks posed by the suspect’s actions.
As a result of the collision, significant damage was sustained by the Nevada Street Bridge. However, it is worth noting that the incident did not cause any contamination to the nearby creek. Nevertheless, the bridge will require repairs to ensure the safety and integrity of the structure.
