SANTA ANA, CA – The Santa Ana Police Department has taken a 30-year-old Lyft driver, identified as Fredi Rojas, into custody on allegations of sexual assault and kidnapping. The arrest follows an incident involving a 15-year-old female victim that occurred in April of this year.

According to authorities, the victim was in the vicinity of 1200 North Bewely and found herself in need of a cell phone charger. Spotting Rojas driving by at a slow pace, she signaled for his attention and requested assistance. Rojas halted his vehicle and offered to help. However, as the victim approached, Rojas forcibly pushed her into his car and drove her to a nearby parking lot, where he subjected her to a distressing sexual assault within the confines of the vehicle. Subsequently, Rojas transported the victim to another location in Santa Ana before releasing her.

The suspect, Fredi Rojas, is employed as a driver for the ridesharing company Lyft. At the time of the incident, he was operating a rented white Nissan Rogue. It is important to note that investigators do not believe the victim was a customer of Lyft. Subsequent to a thorough investigation, detectives apprehended Rojas and subsequently booked him at the Orange County Jail. He now faces charges of kidnapping and sexual assault, with bail set at $1,000,000.00.

Law enforcement officials from the Santa Ana Police Department suspect that there may be additional victims due to Rojas’s employment as a Lyft driver. They are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Detective Amanda Miller can be contacted at 714-245-8363 or via email at amiller5@santa-ana.org. Alternatively, individuals can reach out to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS to provide anonymous tips.

The arrest of Fredi Rojas serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with ridesharing services and the importance of personal safety. The Santa Ana Police Department remains committed to ensuring the well-being of the community and is dedicated to thoroughly investigating this case. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Lyft has been cooperating fully with law enforcement throughout the investigation and has expressed concern for the victim. The company has emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all passengers and will be working closely with authorities to assist in any way possible.

As the investigation unfolds, the Santa Ana Police Department urges individuals to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities or concerns regarding ride-hailing services. The department is determined to safeguard the community and hold accountable those who engage in criminal behavior.
