Man Arrested in Connection to Alleged Hit-and-Run of Elderly Cyclist

Carlsbad, CA- A hit and run accident occurred on March 24, 2023, in the 6100 block of Aviara Parkway in Carlsbad, California. According to police reports, a vehicle struck a 77-year-old male bicyclist and fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a trauma hospital for medical care by the Carlsbad Fire Department. When the police arrived on the scene, they found the victim lying on the roadway and his bicycle nearby.

Lawrence Perez, a 34-year-old Carlsbad resident, was identified as the driver of the vehicle that hit the bicyclist. Police found Perez at the 1300 block of Laurel Tree Lane, where he was arrested for driving under the influence and hit and run causing injury. Upon investigation, Perez displayed symptoms of alcohol intoxication. He will be booked at the Vista Detention Facility.

Initial evidence and witness statements suggest that Perez was at fault and struck the bicyclist from behind, which resulted in the rider’s ejection. Carlsbad Police Department has appealed to the public for any information about the incident and asked them to contact Traffic Accident Investigator Officer Adam Bentley for any leads.
