“On Saturday February 11th, Traffic Investigators, with the assistance of Patrol Officers, located the suspect vehicle used in this fatal hit and run collision at a residence near the crash site. Suspect Mai, the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision, was contacted at the residence where the vehicle was located and arrested. She was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara

County Main Jail for one count of felony hit and run, she posted bail and is no longer in custody.

After further investigation it was revealed that vehicle number two, the white U-Haul panel van, did not strike the downed pedestrian, therefore, it is longer wanted in connection to this hit and run.

On February 10, 2023, at approximately 5:39 AM, patrol Officers responded to the area of Morrill Avenue and Knights Bridge Road to investigate a hit and run traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An unknown make dark colored sedan was traveling southbound on Morrill Avenue when it struck an adult female pedestrian who was walking across Morrill Avenue, outside of any marked crosswalk. The vehicle fled the scene in a southbound direction.

Shortly after the initial collision, a second vehicle, believed to be a full-size U-haul panel van, was traveling southbound on Morrill Avenue when it struck the already downed pedestrian. The second vehicle also fled in a southbound direction.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Shortly after arriving the victim was pronounced deceased.

This is the 4th fatal collision, and the 5th traffic death of 2023. This is also the 3rd pedestrian death of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
