Jomya M. Futch, 18, of Richmond, drove to the Oceanview shopping district in Berkeley. She and the unidentified juvenile went to Sephora Berkeley, a beauty products store at 1785 Fourth Street.

Berkeley police said in a prepared statement. “On January 25 at about 12:28 p.m., two female suspects entered Sephora. They began stealing bottles of fragrance and other products.”

They became separated as they fled. Futch drove away leaving the girl behind. Both were taken into custody separately a few hours apart. The 14-year-old from Oakland was arrested first after a brief foot chase.

Futch was arrested later at Berkeley Police Department headquarters. “She came to the police department to return stolen merchandise,” according to Berkeley PD. The items came from Sephora and a pharmacy.

Both were arrested on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, and conspiracy to commit crime. Futch was booked into Santa Rita Jail and released on bail the following day. Details about the girl are unavailable.

On January 26, charges against Futch were filed for second-degree commercial burglary and grand theft. She is also charged with committing a felony while on supervised probation or parole. Her prior conviction stems from a trip to Arden Fair mall in Sacramento in May, where she was arrested for grant theft.

Futch who turns 19 on February 24 is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on February 17.
