SAN PABLO — Detectives smashed a ring of vehicle thieves operating throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. A routine shooting investigation became a catalyst for a multi-agency collaboration, resulting in arrests of four suspects.

San Pablo officers responded November 26 to the 1700 block of Bush Avenue. A resident had confronted men breaking into his parked vehicle. The victim was shot as the suspects fled in a Jeep. He survived.

Surveillance video helped San Pablo detectives to identify five suspects, including a 19-year-old man who remains at-large. Investigators believe they are associates in a sophisticated vehicle- theft ring.
