Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder and Attempted Murder in Double Shooting

HEMET — On October 27 at around 3:10 am, Hemet Public Safety answered a call concerning two shooting victims located in the 200 block of South Columbia Street.

As officers arrived on scene, they discovered a deceased adult male with a gunshot wound, along with a female victim who also had a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital.

The deceased male was identified as Jason Roy, 20, of Hemet.

The Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau identified the primary suspect in the shooting as 21- year-old Roman Mendez of Castro Valley.

Mendez was arrested on November 3, 2022,  on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He is being held on $2 million bail at the Riverside County jail.
