Norco Man Arrested for Attempted Rape and Robbery

NORCO – Deputies and a Sheriff’s K-9 Team tracked and arrested a suspect who reportedly assaulted a woman in Norco.

A Norco woman reported to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department that she had been assaulted on Saturday, May 9. Deputies responded, arriving at a business located in the 1800 block of Hamner Avenue in the city of Norco, where the woman had sought refuge. The victim reported that she had been assaulted and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the assault.

When interviewing the woman, deputies were told that she had been followed to the 1500 block of 2nd Street, in the city of Norco, by an adult male whom she had met earlier in the evening. The victim reported that once the suspect caught up to her, he physically assaulted her. The suspect also threatened to sexually assault her and took the victim’s purse and cell phone. When the woman fought back, she was able to escape to a nearby business, where she called 911.

Following the victim’s description of the suspect, deputies and the Sheriff’s K-9 Team searched the area. The suspect was eventually discovered hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1500 block of 2nd Street. The suspect was found to have the woman’s purse and cell phone on his person. James Allen Schneider, a 21-year-old resident of Norco, was taken into custody and booked into jail at the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted rape, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing and the department asks that anyone with additional information contact Deputy Richard Rosales #4724 at the Norco Sheriff’s Office at 951-270-5673.
