Two Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Washing Machine from Unoccupied Arcata Home

ARCATA — Two people were recently arrested in Humboldt County in connection to the alleged theft of a washing machine.

Darren Lee Carter (57) and Eric Christopher Chambers (37) were identified as the primary suspects in the theft, which occurred on the 2500 block of Vaissade Road on the evening of November 3, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

Police responded to the area after receiving a report that a suspicious vehicle had been seen leaving an unoccupied residence with the allegedly stolen washing machine and fleeing west toward Manila.

Patrol deputies in the Manila area found the vehicle parked along Peninsula Drive, near Darin Road, and detained two occupants — identified as Carter and Chambers. Deputies also recovered the stolen washing machine and a stolen pull chain from the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Both men were arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary, with Chambers receiving an additional charge of probation violation.
