Weatherford Walmart Shooter Arrested in Needles, California

“The suspect of a shooting at a Walmart in Weatherford, Texas was arrested in Needles, California last week.

John Henry Hughes Jr., 75, of Weatherford was detained by officers from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department during a high risk traffic stop near Broadway Street and Market Street. “The driver… was reported to be armed and dangerous and wanted for attempted murder,” said Deputy J. Ramirez of the Colorado River Station.

Hughes had reportedly shot a 19-year-old man in the chest in the parking lot of a Weatherford Walmart on the evening of October 7th. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and reported to be in stable condition in the ICU.

An arrest warrant was issued for Hughes on October 14th, the same day he was detained in California. Hughes had a 9mm handgun with him at the time of his arrest.

He was booked at the Colorado River Station jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. His additional charges from his California arrest include felon in possession of a firearm and being a fugitive from justice.”
