Inmate Suspected of Murdering Cellmate at West Valley Detention Center

An inmate at West Valley Detention Center is being charged with the murder of his cellmate, Steven Puskar.

Michael Follet, 67, of Yucaipa had been arrested on unrelated charges on September 24th. His cellmate, 47-year-old Steven Puskar of San Bernardino, was found injured and unconscious in their cell on October 2nd.

Puskar was taken to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment. He was pronounced deceased a week later, on October 9th.

An extensive investigation was launched following the incident. Follet was identified as the primary murder suspect following his interview and was charged with murder on October 13th.

“Steven Puskar was arrested by San Bernardino Police on June 29, 2022, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon,” said the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. “Michael Follet was arrested by Yucaipa Police on September 24, 2022, on charges of unlawful use of tear gas, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault, exhibiting a knife and resisting arrest.”
