Man fatally shot by police after domestic disturbance call in Hesperia

Anthony Nunez, an alleged assault suspect, was killed in a deputy-involved shooting after he barricaded himself inside his Hesperia residence and then charged at deputies upon his exit.

Police responded to a residence in the 8900 block of Ninth Avenue around 11:30 AM on March 29th after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance.  “The reporting party called 911 and told Sheriff’s Dispatch that Anthony Nunez assaulted a resident inside the home,” according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.

Deputies met Nunez at the door of the residence and found him armed with a weapon and “uncooperative.”  They were able to evacuate several people who were inside the home as they spoke with Nunez, but he himself refused to come out.

“Nunez barricaded himself inside the residence with the weapon as deputies continually attempted to negotiate with him to surrender,” continues the release.  “Nunez eventually exited the home, armed with a weapon, and charged at the deputies.”

At that point, at least one officer opened fire, killing Nunez.  No one else at the scene was injured.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division are investigating the incident.
