“On Sunday, March 6, 2022 at approximately 11:30 pm, an officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement observed a vehicle with expired registration being driven in the 2000-block of Sebastopol Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and saw open containers of alcohol in the rear passenger area as he approached. The officer learned all three occupants of the vehicle were under the age of 21. He asked the young men to exit the vehicle so he could search for, and remove, any additional alcohol in the car.

When the passenger who had been sitting in the backseat exited the car, he admitted to the officer he had a gun in the backpack slung over his arm. The officer recovered a 9mm Polymer-80 unserialized firearm loaded with 9 rounds of ammunition. Six of those rounds were hollow point bullets.

The passenger, 18-year-old Rohnert Park resident Eric Sutton, was arrested and transported to jail for the following charges:

25850(c)(6) PC – Carry a loaded firearm not registered to you (felony)
25400(c)(6) PC – Carry a concealed firearm in a vehicle (felony)

Because the driver of the vehicle was under age 21 and driving a vehicle with open containers of alcohol present, he was evaluated at the scene by officers for alcohol consumption. It was determined the driver was not intoxicated and was released without a citation.”
