Redding Man Arrested for Battery of Girlfriend’s Child

“On Monday, March 7th, 2022, at 6:18 P.M., Redding Police responded to a local hospital in regards to a 3-year-old boy admitted by his mother and her boyfriend for significant injuries consisting of a broken elbow and head trauma, requiring him to undergo surgery. Both adults were interviewed by Redding Police Detectives and stated the victim was pushed off of a slide by another child while at a preschool in Redding. Based on the seriousness of the victim’s injuries and concerns for his safety, he was taken into protective custody by Shasta County Child Family Services.

Redding Police Detectives continued to work on the case with the assistance of Shasta County Child Family Services, The Children’s Legacy Center and various medical professionals, resulting in the arrest of the mother’s boyfriend on the evening of Wednesday, March 9th. The boyfriend, 25-year-old Benjamin Hamilton-Moerer, was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony child abuse and felony battery with serious injuries. His bail is set at $100,000.00.

The victim, who will remain confidential due to his age, is recovering at a safe location. The Redding Police Department thanks our counterparts for their professionalism and expertise which were crucial in putting this case together.”
