The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder and carjacking.

42-year-old Tuong Nguyen was identified as the primary suspect in a shooting and carjacking in two separate alleged incidents on the morning of Friday, February 18.

In the first incident, around 6:40 AM along Highway 29 near Highway 221 in Napa, an individual was reportedly shot through their passenger window and struck in the head. The victim survived and was able to call 9-1-1, police said. While their current condition is unknown, police said the victim was hospitalized and was awaiting surgery.

In the second, only around 8 minutes later, officers responded to a reported carjacking on the corner of Franklin and Clay Streets in downtown Napa. Responding officers were able to prevent the carjacking and detain Nguyen. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said.

By 1 PM, Nguyen had been booked at the Napa County Department of Corrections without bail.
