Social-Media Sales – Shot Juvenile Hospitalized, Detectives’ Deadly-Weapon Arrest Culminates 2 Weeks Later

BERMUDA DUNES – The investigation into a juvenile shot multiple times while attempting to sell items via a social media application was assumed by the Thermal Station Investigations Bureau. Thermal Station Patrol Deputies had originally responded to the unincorporated area on February 10th at 9 PM.

An anonymous male (17) was found shot on the 79700 block of Avenue 42. His transaction went terribly wrong when a Hispanic male shot the teen and fled the scene. Transport to a local hospital helped the juvenile recover from his injuries.

Investigators positively ID’d the shooting suspect as Raymond Vargas (21) of Coachella. He was located on the 50200 block of Paseo Barcelona, in the city of Coachella, on 02/18/2022 .

“On February 19, 2022, at 2:00 AM, a search warrant was served in the 50200 block of Paseo Barcelona, in the city of Coachella,” said Sergeant David Aldrich. “Vargas was taken into custody without incident.”

The suspect was booked into John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The Thermal Station Investigations Bureau is asking anyone with additional information to contact Investigator Glasper at the Thermal Sheriff’s Station by calling (760)-863-8990. Also, The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is seeking applicants for Deputy Sheriff, Deputy Sheriff Trainee, Correctional Deputy, Sheriff’s 911 Communications Officer, and other employment opportunities such as clerical and support positions.
