2 daycare workers charged with child abuse and conspiracy after infant is hospitalized

Two female daycare workers have been arrested for child abuse and conspiracy after an eight-month-old boy in their care suffered a serious head injury.

The four-month-long investigation began on September 4, 2021, when police were called in to the Loma Linda University Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit about an infant with a skull fracture.  The boy had attended Kiddie Academy in Rancho Cucamonga.

The suspects, 29-year-old Rudie Megan Maldonado of  San Bernardino and 50-year-old Felicia Ann Ferra of Yorba Linda, employees of Kiddie Academy, are believed to have been “conspiring to conceal the victim’s injuries and neglect of the victim’s well-being,” according to the statement released by the Sheriff’s Department.  Police believe there may be additional victims.

On January 13th, the Sheriff’s Department announced in a statement that both women had been arrested for conspiracy and child abuse.  Maldonado was booked at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on $100,000 bail.  She is currently out on bail.  Ferra turned herself in at West Valley Detention Center after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation—including information about other possible victims—is asked to contact Deputy Roger Alfaro at (909) 387-3615 or leave an anonymous tip through We-Tip.
