A Visalia man has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of a department store employee in 2018.

On November 22, 2021, 47-year-old Jeremy Kechloian was found guilty of the May 9, 2018, stabbing death of a Kmart employee who had escorted him outside after other customers reported that Kechloian had entered the store with a knife and behaved suspiciously, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

During booking, Kechloian also reportedly punched an officer in the face, as well as violently resisted the two officers who tried to put him in his holding cell.

During his time in custody, Kechloian reportedly threw feces at a custodial officer, was caught with a handmade weapon in his cell, and damaged the window of his cell — among other things — all of which resulted in an eventual separate conviction on various charges related to this conduct on November 30, 2021.

Kechloian was ultimately sentenced to life in prison for the murder.
