Suspect arrested for murder of elderly man
“On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at approximately 9:35 a.m. Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers responded to the 800 Block of Shetland Place for a medical call on the report of an elderly male who was found unconscious and not breathing. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located the patient and immediately provided medical aid. Unfortunately, the patient did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (SDPS) initiated a homicide investigation as the victim appeared to have sustained traumatic injuries. A person of interest, Ryan Cox, was identified. Cox was located by Sunnyvale Public Safety Officers in San Jose. He was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Murder, a violation of penal code 187.
This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and no additional information is available for release at this time. The investigation revealed this incident was an isolated event. The suspect is a known family member to the victim. The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin notification is made by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner.”
