Santa Rosa police have announced the recent arrest of a man wanted in connection to an alleged shooting back in May.

Police responded on the night of May 9 to a reported shooting on the 4000 block of Arthur Ashe Circle, discovering a man who’d sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was treated at the scene and, later, at an area hospital.

Violent Crimes detectives later assumed the investigation, soon identifying 37-year-old Aman Berhe — of Santa Rosa — as the primary suspect. Though a motive for the shooting remains unknown, detectives learned Berhe and the victim were acquaintances.

Detectives eventually developed cause to suspect Berhe was hiding out in Novato. On September 14, in following investigative leads, they began surveillance on the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard. Investigators soon spotted Berhe outside a motel at around 11 AM, and were able to take him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Per the terms of Berhe’s Post-Release Community Supervision, investigators searched him, his home, and his vehicle, reportedly discovering ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and a loaded handgun.

Berhe was booked on several charges relating to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
