“RIVERSIDE, CA – On Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at approximately 2:35 p.m., Riverside Police Officers and Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department responded to an apartment complex in the 8600 block of Arlington Avenue for a call of a “subject down.”
A woman returned home and found her husband, later identified as 62-year-old Armando Vazquez of Riverside, laying unresponsive and bleeding on the floor of their living room. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
Detectives with the Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit, responded and assumed the investigation. They have been assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim’s son, 21-year-old Jair Armando Vazquez, physically assaulted his father that afternoon then fled in the victim’s vehicle.
Over the next several hours, detectives were able to identify the whereabouts of the suspect in the city of Newport Beach. With assistance from our METRO Team and the Newport Beach Police Department, Jair Armando Vazquez was located and arrested. He was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder and robbery, and is currently being held on 1 million dollars’ bail.
This investigation is still ongoing and there are no further details to release at this time.
