Man tries to break into Garden Grove business, dies of unknown causes

A man died after attempting to break into a closed business and then inflicting injuries to himself.  The cause of death is unknown.

A witness reported the attempted break-in to the business, located in the 9500 block of Chapman Avenue in Garden Grove, at around 10 p.m. on September 1st.  When Garden Grove officers arrived, they found the man in front of the business, lying down.

“As officers approached the individual, they observed him acting erratically and inflicting harm to himself,” says the Garden Grove Police Department in the news release. “To prevent the male from further injuring himself, they restrained and handcuffed him.”

The man was treated for his self-inflicted injuries before being transported to a local hospital, where he died for “unknown reasons,” according to the release.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.  Anyone with information that may be helpful to this ongoing investigation is asked to contact Garden Grove Police Detective Lopez at 714-741-5818.
