A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after being interrupted by a victim during a burglary, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

On the afternoon of August 2, deputies responded to the Villas at Timberline in Auburn to investigate a report of a residential burglary that had been interrupted. A resident had come home to find the front door open and numerous items sprawled out front, as well as an unknown car in the driveway with a stranger sitting in the driver’s seat.

When the victim confronted the stranger — later identified as 51-year-old Christopher Blair of Mount Shasta — he allegedly tried to stab the victim. The victim jumped out of the way and avoided the knife, at which point Blair allegedly struck the victim with his car in such a way that the victim bounced off the windshield and over the top of the car.

Although Blair had fled by the time deputies arrived, a witness was able to point them in his direction. Deputies pulled Blair over along Bell Road and took him into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary.

Despite significant injuries, the victim is expected to survive.
