Fight on the 60 Freeway Results in 2 Hospitalizations and 3 Arrests

A fight broke out as a result of a car crash on the 60 freeway. Two people, including a police officer, required hospitalization, and three individuals now face felony assault charges.

Ontario police officers received multiple calls regarding the initial altercation, which occurred the evening of July 28th on the eastbound 60 freeway, east of Vineyard Avenue.  According to the police news release, the fight started because of a traffic collision.  The victim assaulted during the fight was sent to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

“While officers were trying to conduct their investigation, three of the individuals became verbally and physically combative towards the officers,” which resulted in moderate injuries and hospital treatment for one officer, according to the release. “A use of force occurred in order to gain control of the situation.”

Ultimately, officers arrested 36-year-old Carlos Nieto of Riverside and two juveniles for felony assault.  Nieto was booked into West Valley Detention Center, while the juveniles are being held at San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.

“As standard protocol Ontario Police Department will conduct a use of force review for the incident.”
