Suspect Arrested for Shooting near a BART Station on a Sunday Afternoon

BAY POINT— Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a suspect last weekend in connection with a shooting near a train station. The shooting occurred in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon.

This shooting happened on Alves Lane across the street from the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station at Pittsburg/Bay Point. Deputies responded June 13 at 12:41 p.m.

Deputies located the victim, who by then, was with BART and Pittsburg police officers. The victim reported being inside a vehicle with another person when a gunshot was fired. No one was reported injured.

Deputies subsequently arrested the suspect at 2:10 p.m. The suspect has beenidentified as Johnell D. Worthy, a 46-year-old resident of San Francisco.

Worthy was transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, where he remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Worthy was booked for –
 Discharge of a weapon in a grossly negligent manner
 Carrying a loaded firearm when not the registered owner
 Carrying a concealed weapon

Worthy also has prior arrests in 2013 and 2015 on his rap sheet. These arrests were for assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of ammunition, and possession of controlled substances.
