“In April, we announced the number of criminals arrested for possession of a firearm in Placer County nearly doubled over the past year. Deputies still encounter the same problem during their patrol shifts today.

The below incident is another reminder of why our deputies remain vigilant.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on May 31st , a Placer County Sheriff’s deputy pulled a vehicle over at Interstate 80 and Elm Avenue, in Auburn. The deputy contacted the driver who was identified as 26-year old Jalen Dedrick, of Sparks, Nevada.

Dedrick stated he was on parole; the deputy subsequently searched Dedrick’s vehicle and found a loaded semi-automatic firearm inside a backpack directly behind the driver’s seat, within arm’s reach. The Glock was loaded with 15 9mm rounds.

Dedrick was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm not registered in his name.”
