18-Year-Old Man Leads Police on High-Speed Chase and Endangers Lives of Three Juvenile Passengers

An 18-year-old man from Ontario has been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a tree, putting the lives of his three juvenile passengers in danger.

The incident took place at about 1:17 AM on Monday, May 10, 2021. The suspect, identified as Ricky Alvarez, was driving a white Scion XB sedan that had “multiple vehicle violations,” according to the release. When Rancho Cucamonga officers attempted to pull him over, Alvarez refused, and a 6-mile high speed chase ensued throughout Rancho Cucamonga and Ontario. The pursuit ended after Alvarez drove the car over a curb and hit a tree.  Alvarez subsequently got out of the car and ran away, successfully evading officers’ attempts to capture him.

Three juveniles were found inside the wrecked vehicle.  “All three were occupants of the suspect vehicle who asked the driver multiple times to stop so they could exit the vehicle,” states the release. “The driver refused and all three sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital by ambulance.”

Alvarez was located at a local hospital that evening around 9:00 PM. He had sustained a broken finger while running away from police. He was arrested and transferred to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he completed treatment for his injury and was medically cleared for discharge. Alvarez was booked into West Valley Detention Center on charges of evading police with disregard for safety, child cruelty causing in jury, false imprisonment, and kidnapping. His bail was set at $250,000.
