“At approximately 9:54 this morning, a resident contacted the 9-1-1 Communications Center and reported they had located a stabbing victim near the Folsom Community Center on Natoma Street. Officers responded and located an adult male with serious lacerations to his stomach. The victim was transferred to a local area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The witness who reported the crime was able to provide officers with a detailed description of the suspect and the direction that he ran off after the stabbing.
A perimeter was quickly established, and a search began on foot and with K-9s. The suspect, Gary Allen, 50, of Folsom was located an hour later and taken into custody. Allen was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail for murder.
This incident continues to be under investigation, but all evidence gathered thus far leads us to believe this was an altercation between two individuals. Both individuals were known to Folsom PD as experiencing homelessness. There is no threat to the public related to this incident.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
The attached photo is of Allen, taken before the stabbing occurred. The Folsom Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this investigation to contact the Communications Center at 916-355-7230.”
