OAKLAND — A neighborhood near Lake Merritt is plagued by burglaries and a man suspected of committing several burglaries is in custody. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested in April.

Oakland police recently alerted residents in the upscale Adam’s Point neighborhood about burglaries. Residents were warned that a man was entering residences through unlocked sliding doors and windows on balconies.

Investigators recovered evidence from one victim’s residence, which linked Kumonee L. Butler to one of these burglaries. Butler who lives in Stockton was taken into custody by Oakland officers on April 30 at 3:50 p.m.

In a prepared statement Oakland police said. “General crimes investigators and evidence technicians recovered physical evidence from one of the crime scenes.

Investigators worked with the Oakland Police Department’s Crime Lab to identify and link Butler to one of the victim’s residences.”

Butler was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of first- and second- degree burglary. He remains in custody for violating terms of probation from a prior conviction.

Butler faces charges for a burglary on March 5 and two more burglaries prior to that. In 2015, Butler was convicted of burglary and sentenced to four years in state prison.

In addition, Butler has prior arrests and convictions for engaging in lewd conduct. He was sentenced to county jail and probation for this unseemly behavior.

The investigation of the burglaries in the Adam’s Point neighborhood remains open. Anyone with information can call Oakland police at 510-238-3728.
