KERN SECRET WITNESS TIP LEADS TO 2019 HIT & RUN ARREST
Originally published as a Bakersfield Police Department Facebook post –  
“On Saturday, September 7, 2019 at about 9:21 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department, were sent to a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian in the 1000 block of Kentucky Street.
An adult male was riding his bicycle in the 1000 block of Kentucky Street when he was struck by a westbound traveling vehicle. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist fled the scene.
After the initial vehicle fled the scene, the adult male was struck again while down in the roadway. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene of the collision and cooperated with investigators. The adult male sustained severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Thanks to a Kern Secret Witness tip, investigators were able to identify the driver in this fatal hit & run collision. Edith Mata (24) of Bakersfield was arrested for hit and run causing death.”
