Sac County Sheriff: Suspect arrested in connection to December 2020 murder

“Detectives of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested Cornell Ellis (25) for the December 11, 2020 murder of David Michael Sheffield (34). There are no outstanding subjects and there is no further information at this time.

At approximately 7:25 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call regarding an unresponsive subject located in a vacant lot at the 5700 block of Watt Avenue in Sacramento County.

Deputies responded and located an unresponsive, adult male with trauma to his upper body. Moments later, fire personnel arrived and pronounced the subject deceased. The Coroner will identify the subject and the manner of death.

Homicide detectives responded and are conducting witness interviews and gathering evidence.

The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after identification and notification of next of kin.
